I'm currently watching a programme shown on the BBC presented by Bettany Hughes about Atlantis and what it actually was. www.bettanyhughes.co.uk/atlantis-the-evidenceI've seen this programme quite a few times as I think it's a few years old, but I never get tired of watching it as it holds such an interest for me (that and it has one of my favourite holiday destinations in it, Crete!) Her theory is basically that the island of Santorini (ancient name being Thera) was the origin of the story of Atlantis, as it was destoyed by a huge volcanic eruption. It is also thought that the tsunami wave which was caused due to the eruption hit the north of Crete which would explain the sudden disappearance of their most famous natives, the Minoans. To me, it's the most convincing theory so far about Atlantis that I have seen, but what do you guys think? Is Atlantis a place that really existed or is it just a great story?

Atlantis is one of the biggest myths/cases I've studied so far and I firmly believe it's real and with all the information gathered about the lost civilization, it was most likely the most advance one yet in all of history.

What sort of information have you got? You able to post any of it? Most of what I have recorded is written down in journals, collected through knowledge from books, years of research and documentaries (kinda pieced the clues that really stood out and went together) but the basicness of the civilization, is that they were sophisticated in both agriculture, philosophy, world governments and policies and it seems to be that no one really wanted to invade Atlantis due to it's sophisticated and complicated city (it was built to deter and confuse those who would invade by sea and since that was really the only way to infiltrate it's defenses, it helped givent he Atlanteans time to gather forces). Another was their army force (so to speak). It was said by the records of several different countries (or civilizations back then) that their armor guard, were highly trained, and used elite force against their enemies. They were abundant in many minerals and supposedly traded precious stones instead of regular silver or gold for exporting and importing payments. Atlantis is truly fascinating and one of the most amazing historical sites we've yet to find.
