I will likely pick up both PS4 and X1, but right now the PS4 holds most of my interest as a gamer. I have interest in many Japanese titles and don't think MS have announced enough yet to tap into those markets which would entice JP developers to move away from JP console exclusives.
Love the entertainment features the X1 has to offer, but these are supposedly only going to be fully available in the US on launch and later rolled out to other regions so might wait out till then as my X360 can handle the other apps.

The Halo TV series with Steven Spielberg sounds quite interesting. Would love to see what he does with it

Oh I do hope CD/TR swap alliances to sony now :/ . The entertainment stuff is all fine and dandy if you live in the US, but tbh I buy a game console to play games not for everything else.

Not going anywhere near Xbox One, I got bored with the 360 after 5 months because their library was lacking a diverse range of games. Where as with the PS3 the had the best exclusives..so PC and PS4 for me.
Xbox One is a Xbox 360 with a stealthy DRM, restrictive limitations regarding second hand games, the same TV services only they load slightly faster, a new gigantic body and... SKYPE..oh boy.
The minor graphical update shown in COD (The rest of the trailers were NOT running on the game engine, they were animated) was paltry and most certainly not worth whatever the hell Microsoft are gonna want for this disaster,

I'm really enjoying Falling Skies so if that's any indicator as to what the Halo series could be like, I'm definitely on board. Oh I do hope CD/TR swap alliances to sony now :/ . Sure all the entertainment stuff looks great but for us outside the U.S, it's not hugely promising. I didn't watch the whole reveal but I heard that there would be no backwards compatibility. Anyone know if that's true? If it is, that's a deal breaker. The 360's limited backwards compatibility was irritating enough without removing it all together. Whichever console offers the greatest accessibility for gamers is the one I'd likely choose.

^ Yep there's no backwards compatibility on X1, but I'm sure PS4 won't have it either.

Simply for me, the Playstation 4. Sony is still very much about gaming and connecting with your friends and while the whole, "Connect with your network of buddies" isn't very important to me, there's still a lot of good things to be had about the new PS4. Microsoft is way too greedy when it comes to the new Xbox and gaming for them seems to be leaving for whatever reasons they have. PC is awesome and beautiful but honestly, nothing more than that to me personally. It's just a personalizer or editor. The graphics on the new PS4 are just as good as the best high-powered graphics on the PC, if not better.
My vote: PS4.

PS4 will be able to play ps1-3 games via the cloud server Sony bought, basically the games will be streamed to your console versus downloading em.

But there is nothing like the physical disc though , I'd hate for it to go 100% download even though I know it is coming one day. Plus if you already have them...I'll just plug in my ps2

Thing is with this whole backwards compatible debate/argument etc. its like, erm, does buying the new console require you to throw away your old one, somehow break it beyond use? no.. its still there for you to play on.. YES its infinitely more desirable and easier if you can just pop ya old games into the new box but its not like MS/Sony have come into your house overnight and removed your old hardware just cos you bought their new one.. I do love the totally over the top drama this causing Sonys `streaming` of older games via Gaikai hasnt been fully explained/fleshed out, but could be interesting.

Out of everything they have said about X1, not being backwards compatible is the least of my worries (and here was me thinking I might get a new xbox instead of a ps4, I'll admit mostly because of TR. Doesn't look like it is happening now!) We were all spoiled by ps2's!

I should have clarified. My 360 is starting to show its age and I don't fancy buying a new one. The backwards compatibility for me would have been an incentive for me to buy it because I simply don't buy a lot of new releases. I make exceptions for series I really love (like Tomb Raider - and even though I enjoyed it thoroughly, it followed many of the trends of modern gaming I abhor, namely bugger all replay value) It's just surprising because the One seems so much like the 360, it's weird that it can't play 360 games. Since most of the features they advertised likely won't operate properly outside of the U.S early on, there's very little about the One that grabs me. Backwards compatibility might have made it worth it in the long run but until we know more about it, I'm not sold. If I do decide to get one, it won't be until the price has been slashed. So my gaming needs until then will probably be satisfied by PC or my old 360 for as long as it holds out.

It may appear on surface to have similarities but its entire internal mechanics have changed completely.. no longer a powerpc cpu but an X86 one (more like a standard pc) so all games from the off would need to be emulating things etc..

Is anyone buying a new system pretty soon after it is released? I know I won't for at least 18 months, I'm just curious what everyone else plans to do.

PS4 by far for me. The Xbox One reveal was so underwhelming - it felt more like a home entertainment system than a games console. I think they have a lot to prove at E3

Now we've seen their `pitch` i have to say its pretty EVEN when it comes to games and the like.. the obvious sticking points in everyones heads tho are the drm issues and the price.. BUT (and dont shoot me too much for this) you GET a lot more `default` with the XboxOne, the camera etc, and yes i KNOW its mandatory so have no choice, but when you take this into account the cost of the PS4/Xbone pretty much even out.. PERSONALLY i not bothered about the 24 hour online requirement as we are online at home, so as its a requirement to have the console then i meet that requirement. As for the DRM, the easiest way to put it is that they've brought STEAM to the console world (before Steam have a chance to finally launch their own console).. Steam was HATED at its launch, blasted for its policies, but NOW its seen as a stable, reliable, ubiquitous service.. Am sure the strictness of the policies they've announced will get adjusted over time We'll be getting a PS4 first i am assuming (if of course they deliver on time this year heh), but wont shy away from getting an Xbone later.

I've had an Xbox 360 for two years, but I don't like what I'm seeing from the X1. I don't want to watch TV on a game console, I want to play GAMES on a GAME console. I feel like the PS4 will be a better system, but I'm not sure if it would be wise to switch from Xbox to SONY at this point? To be honest, I'm going to wait at least 12 months until I make a choice. Regardless what side I choose, I'm still super excited for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and Tomb Raider II.
