So looks like a 5 parter planned? RPG elements? Did they say `too` much of what they hoped to do? revealed things they `hoped` could deliver when should have left it?

Naturally with the benefit of hindsight, we're able to turn round and say "Obviously they should have kept some things to themselves and not been so cocksure that what they wanted to do could be achieved!"
At the time, I'm sure they thought it was possible, but also got a little over excited at the prospect of taking Tomb Raider to another level! Unfortunately, the ideas they had were a bit too ambitious at the time and didn't come to fruition, which I for one think is a damn shame!

I found this absolutely fascinating when I read this yesterday, the main shock being five parts. I thought it was always planned to be a trilogy. If that was the case then the saga would have been over in 2011 if you gave them 2 year development cycles. That is just crazy! I think TR might have gone stale quicker if that had happened though as in hindsight, I'm not sure gamers would hold out for a long continuing series like AoD saga that isn't a new IP. Still, I am a big advocate of the trilogy! Also sounds like they were trying to make it more open world, a debate that still goes on today

As surprising as it is, I loathed Angel of Darkness. However, I'm surprised by the fact that the game was going to be part of a five game series. That's milking it quite a bit much and how long can you drag a saga like AOD for more than one game as it is? I just don't get that.

I've had this little article for quite some time, just waited for the proper moment to put it up. Also have some other magazine scans haha XD but as far as I'm aware 5 games was incorrect, the people I talked to from Core confirmed only 3 aod games were planned, 2 being already on the drawin board before they got canned. We could always want a brighter future for the game sure but I'm ok with how things worked out. I'm excited for the future.

While the 5 games might have just been a misinterpretation on the part of the one doing the interview, like so many things were misinterpreted, Murti Schofield did say he had done outlines for two spin-off games, one with Kurtis and one with Eckhardt, which with the Lara Croft trilogy would make 5 games all of which were dependent on the first game doing well. We had heard rumors about the Demon Hunter game, so 5 games might not have been that far out. Core Design were very optimistic about AOD, and had big plans for Lara which they liked to talk about, it never occurred to them at the time something might go wrong. And the room in the background of the article is also of interest, we saw several views of that and a screenshot, so it seems they built it even though they later modernized things a bit and changed the look. It is the room with the rounded glass ceiling, probably a Maya render in this case.
