And I'm not talking about those "Gurl Gamerz" out there who like to make a giant fuss about the fact that they're nothing special, I'm talking about actual girls in games the ones we get to control and while in the gaming world we all love so much... while they aren't many BIG names out there, those that are really do kick ass! A friend of mine wrote an article on who she thinks are the top 10 girls in gaming, and guess who she put at number 1... Take a look at her list and let us know whether you agree with her or not, and if you can, who are your top ten girls in gaming?! www.mookychick.co.uk/reviews/video-games/top-10-kickass-women-in-video-games.php

Great list there, and no surprise Lara is on top given her awesomeness and such iconic status. Not played Pirates: The Legend Of Black Kat so can't comment on Black Kat, though it does look interesting.
Other women in games I like include Rayne from Bloodrayne, who while a bit sexed up like most female characters seem to be, she is such a badass killing machine. Jade from Beyond Good and Evil is a pretty cool character too.
One female protagonist I do love who in some ways feels similar to Lara with her fearlessness, humour and 'can do' attitude is Zoƫ Castillo from Dreamfall: The Longest Journey. If you haven't tried it already, I highly recommend this adventure title and I'm pretty sure you'll fall in love with her too.

Nice little list there , like Rident however I am surprised that Jade wasn't there either! I suppose FemShep (Jane) couldn't be included because it is a duel role where the player chooses, still... I think she should be there! I also like Aveline from AC:Liberation (just annoyed she was 'relegated' to the ps vita) and Rubi Malone from Wet. Rident, you raised my hopes...I searched for Dreamfall: The Longest Journey and found that I do not have the required platforms to play it, damn you!

Before I clicked on the list I thought to myself, 'You know, I wish there were more women in gaming like Buffy' (as in strong and really funny), only to scroll down and find that she's positioned at number four! I think gaming could just use more funny characters in general, to be honest. As for my personal favourite girls in gaming, I'd have to nominate pretty much all of the women from the Ace Attorney series. Not only do you have one fully fleshed out female, but several! My personal favourites are the happy-go-lucky spirit medium Maya, the adorable little girl Pearl, and the whip-cracking Franziska von Karma. I should mention Alyx Vance from the Half-Life series, too. She absolutely comes across as a real person.

Hi infiniteammo , it's always nice to see someone new I've never played the ace attorney games, I didn't know there were so many females in those games! May have to look into those now Just throwing it out there, has any played a game called The 3rd Birthday on psp or it's predecessors Parasite Eve I and II? I don't have a psp so unfortunately I have not been able to play it. Plus I am terrible with beautiful looking cover art, show me a nice cover and I'll be throwing my credit card at the amazon homepage! ...I've just realised it's by SE...they do it to me every time! I find a game that looks interesting and a good 7/10 times it's by SE or SS! Damn you.... Rident there's a sequel! www.giantbomb.com/dreamfall-chapters/3030-24081/Btw this is the list I use to root out female lead games:http://www.giantbomb.com/female-protagonists/3015-2287/games/

Hi infiniteammo , it's always nice to see someone new I've never played the ace attorney games, I didn't know there were so many females in those games! May have to look into those now Hi! You know, I've just realised that none of the women I mentioned in my posts are actually protagonists. Come to think of it, I'm not sure I've played that many games with female protagonists in (excluding games where you choose to play as a man or woman). Tomb Raider, Portal and Mirror's Edge are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Xbox 360. That's a bit of a shame considering there are so many worthy female characters to play as and play with that are exclusive to the Playstation 3 system.

I dug out some old games featuring female protagonists from my PS1 and PS2 collections and ran a few brief streams of gameplay. So far I have played as: - Nikki Connors - Rogue Ops (PS2)
- Motoko Kusanagi - Oni (PS2)
- Cate Archer - The Operative: No One Lives Forever (PS2)
- Rayne - BloodRayne (PS2)
- Lara Croft - Tomb Raider II (PS1)
Some characters I have planned to play as continue this quick series are: - Regina - Dino Crisis (PS1)
- Hana Tsu Vachel - Fear Effect (PS1)
- Perfect Dark (XBL originally N64)
- Jill Valentine - Resident Evil 3 (PS1)
- Jade - Beyond Good and Evil (XBL originally PS2/Xbox/GC)
There are more that I have and would love to do as well as some games I had, lent out and never got back. I specifically picked on "classics" from the previous gen titles which are a little more action heavy. I could at a later date do some more modern ones too.
Here are the vids from my streams: Twitch.TV/RidentFFXI

Oooh there's Jenn from Primal too, comes with added bonus that her boyfriend (Lewis) is voiced by Eric Loren aka a very familiar Kurtis Trent

I saw this last night and I know that it was reposted on SR's fb page but I defiantly think it deserves a place here: When I saw it I ended up just looking at it for quite a while because I cannot think of a better picture to sum up where women in games are at the moment as we move into the next generation. In this Ellie represents the a figurehead of the new generation learning from the old. It's exciting to consider what may come out of this, will we have more female protagonist and who exactly will they be? What happens in their lives and what motivates them to do the things they do? Above it all, with Ellie as the first new prominent member of 'the club', we can be sure that they are standing on solid foundations

Ooh I have thought of another great female protagonist. Manon Batiste from Medal of Honor: Underground. Ok so as a FPS with a mute character she does not develop her character in game so much, however the narrator does that through the the briefings between missions.
