Sorry if this is in the wrong place, but I must share what just happened. I have been meaning to play the original Tomb Raider game for some time now, but I haven't been able to because DOSbox and windows 7 haven't been working well with each other. I decided to install it again just to see if it would work. IT WORKED!!!! It didn't crash at start-up. You have no idea how happy I am because of this. It must have been because my new graphics card worked better with DOS box? either way, I am very happy that it works now! :3

I havent had the chance to play it for too long, but I have been having a blast with it. Once I got used to the tank-like controls and the graphics, It became a very enjoyable game to play. Perhaps it's because I can get into the mindset of when these classic games first came out? In any case, I am having fun with this legendary game, and I look foward to trying the rest of the CORE Tomb Raider games. I might even give AOD a second chance. :3
I am thinking of messing around with DOSbox to see if I can get the graphics to look better. Any screen resolution settings you reccomend that still keeps the original 4:3 aspect ratio?? Or would it be better to stick with the stock resolution settings to get a more "original" game experience?
EDIT: Decided to change resolution to 1280 x 960. It is a complete double of the old settings. looks a lot like TR II now. A big improvement, but still retains the same atmosphere of the old settings. It also retains the same 4:3 aspect ratio.

I have put about 4 hours into the game now. I am currently on the tomb of qualopec. In the lost valley, I actually was scared when the T-rex came out of the fog! So far, it's been fun. I'll send another update when I get a bit further into the game.

Just wish there was a correct work around to get the music playing, TR without the ambience music just isn't TR to me.

I know it's been a while, but I feel like giving an update. According to steam, I've put 12 hours of time into Tomb Raider 1. I am almost done with Greece. I'm having a lot of fun with the game. For a few sections of the game, I genuinely got stuck on some puzzles, and had to look at Stella's guide for answers. (the guide was excellent, and it answered all my questions I'll definitely use it and other guides by Stella again in the future!)
Winter break begins for me begins in a few weeks, so maybe I can get the rest of TR 1 complete and give my option of the rest of the game.

I just finished Tomb Raider today at 4:24 AM, after putting 26 hours into playing it. Who knew an almost 20 year old game could still be so much fun? I should go now and get some sleep.

As most people know, The PC port of Tomb Raider lacks the ambient music of the PlayStation version. I was searching the internet for a solution to this problem, and I came across a computer program that was able to solve my problems! I believe it is called Glidos. From what I have read, it's an older program, but it restores the PlayStation extra audio tracks to the PC version, among other things. Those other things being: Out of the box support for the GOG and Steam versions of Tomb raider • Supports TRX high-quality textures - much higher resolution than the original game (see Tomb Raider Xtra). • Restores PlayStation quality to the Full Motion Video sections FMV packs • Restores PlayStation extra audio tracks audio packs • Supports True3D via 3D monitors or red/blue anaglyph glasses. The only downside is you have to pay $10 for the program, but it is a small price to pay to finally be able to experience Tomb Raider 1996 the way it was meant to be played. They even have the screen resolutions set so it keeps the 4:3 aspect ratio, even when in full screen on a 16:9 computer monitor. Sorry to necropost on a three year old thread, but I felt the need to share this information. Link to Glidos

I think Glidos is common knowledge amongst the classic fans (even I knew about it and never played the games on PC until recently), but thanks for posting for any newer fans that visit our forums!
