Well that was one hell of an experience, just finished the game last night. They truly did make platforming the most important part of the game again, thankfully. Gunplay was still there but I loved that we had the choice of fighting, using stealth or just running.
Lara herself was just incredibly bad ass in this game personality wise. It's like classic Lara just a bit more human.

Not sure how far along I am (just managed to get through the old mine and lose Jacob in a rock slide), but definitely enjoying this more than the last game. The lack of stereotypical and useless side characters is a huge contributary factor in this; for the first time, Lara really does feel like she's going it alone. That said, Ana's backstory did not come as a shock at all - it's a TR game, it's a blond character.... need we say more? The breathless voice acting still bugs me (it wasn't until I read the journals that I realised it was 'Ana', not 'Hannah'). But at least this time we're not bombarded with 'I can do this' every few minutes. The atmospherics and game mechanics are top-notch. There's a return to 'oh my...' moments when you discover a new location in all its jaw-dropping vistarous glory (is that even a word?). Also, there are a couple of in-jokes that earned a genuine chuckle... yes, Lara, I'm sure I've seen those puzzle pieces before somewhere, too So far, so good!

Yeah Ana's betrayal wasn't all that shocking was the cliche writing sadly making its return. Oddly enough when her and Lara are tied to the chairs I got Natla vibes from Ana when she said "That's enough" etc. Not sure if they were trying to pay homage to her in a way but she even sounded like her. lol Funny story I thought her name was Hannah because of Camilla's accent xD
I cannot count how many times I just stopped and stared at the environments...they were so damn beautiful up until the end. Graphically I think Crystal really raised the bar for next gen gaming.

I'm still only about a third of the way through, and its environmental design has to be rank amongst the most beautiful and atmospheric.

There is no doubt that, in terms of gameplay and graphics, Rise is sublime. The mechanics from TR2013 have been well-refined, and the improvements make it feel very fluid and fun to play. I was also in love with the locations; my favourite has to be the Remnants' Valley. All of them are simply beautiful <3 That said, I was left pretty 'meh' about the story. It would take too long to go into detail (that's why I wrote a long blog entry about it here!), but suffice to say I was disappointed that it was basically Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade in Siberia, with Lara instead of Indy, and Trinity in place of Nazis. The landscape and mythology had a lot of potential, but I finished it feeling that too much had been left untapped.
