Hello Raiders!
Survivor Reborn is preparing an article chronicling the music of Tomb Raider across the years, and we want YOU to help make it extra special.
Nathan McCree, the original composer and sound effects wizard for the first three Tomb Raider titles, has kindly agreed to an interview especially for this article. Survivor Reborn is throwing the doors open so that YOU can have the chance to ask Mr McCree a question. The five best questions (i.e. those that haven't been asked before or are especially insightful), will be included in the interview AND those five people will also be entered into a prize draw to win a Steam code for Rise of the Tomb Raider!
Rules for entry:
1) Ask as many questions as you like - but only ONE will be chosen per person. 2) Please ask your questions in a SINGLE POST (you can use the 'edit' function if you want to add more questions to your list). 3) The deadline for questions is Sunday 17th July 2016 12:00 GMT. 4) The five most original, insightful, and potentially-revealing questions will be included in the interview with Nathan McCree. Each of the five questioners will be entered into a random prize draw to win a Steam code for Rise of the Tomb Raider. 5) The winner of the Steam code will be notified and have their prize sent privately after the article/interview publication (approx' end of August).
Good luck!

Can't wait to hear/read the interview with Nathan! He's one of the biggest reasons I started learning the violin when I was a child. Questions wise: Here are a couple that if it were me asking him, I'd really like to know: - What inspired you (Nathan), to choose so many different types of sounds of instruments for your soundtracks? - Did you ever associate certain instruments with certain emotions or themes? (i.e. Cello for intense moments, harps/vocals for discovery.) - During a certain moment or level during Lara's adventures, we can hear all different types of music. In that regard, which pieces did you find were the most difficult to write for? Which were the easiest? - Every composer writes music differently. With that, when writing the music for Tomb Raider, how was your composing process? For the most part, did you have an idea already in your head with what you were given to work with or was it more along the lines you sampled and worked your way as you went? - What was it like writing for a video-game with a female character who raided tombs? Did that in any way impact your compositions? - What musical piece is your personal favorite from the series? - If you had the opportunity/chance, would you compose for the future Tomb Raider games? - For those trying to achieve the title of composer one day, what advice would you give to them?

With the initial Tomb Raider theme, what inspired you to create that particular piece? Was there anything specific that inspired you?
When you wrote the entire score for the first game, you did so in record time and without any insight as to what the game levels would be like. Did you find this challenging or liberating at the time and why?
Was there any tracks you wrote that didn't make any of the games? if there were did you agree with the cut? (will they make the Tomb Raider Suite?) Do you have a particular favourite Tomb Raider Villain? If you do why this villain?
At what point did you start to realise you were apart of something big with the tomb raider name?
Lara has been all over the world on her adventures, if you could choose to join her on one of her adventures where would you be going and why?
You started your career with Programming at Core Design after doing a Computer Science degree. Why did you choose this degree and career in the beginning?
Did you ever plan to do music for games in the beginning or was it happy coincidence that you were asked to join the Asterisk and the power of the gods team and continued writing music for games?
Have you ever continued with programming during your career whether for work or in your own time?
In the 90's, girl power was on the rise. working on Lara Croft and with the spice girls, two major figures of 90s girl power, Did You feel like You were a part of the girl power movement or was it circumstantial? What were/are your thoughts on girl power (if you have any) and in your opinion (if any) has the nature of feminism in popular culture changed much since then?
The 90s was very much a time for strong independent women in media. We had Warrior Princess Xena, Lara Croft and Buffy Summers just to name a few.Do you think the team intentionally sought to create a female icon of 90s gaming?
Do you think Lara was the beginning of something new in games, how would you describe her influence on gaming?

What inspired you or what were you feeling to have came up with the iconic Theme music Lara Croft is known for?
Were there any challenges coming up with the right kind of score to accompany miss croft on her first Tomb Raider game?
Why Did you stop at Tomb Raider 3?

Thanks so much for participating! Yep, the time for submissions is over. Now we'll comb through them and put them together in a proper interview to send to Mr McCree. We'll be in touch with the random winner in the next few weeks, but it semi-depends on when Mr McCree can send us his answers/when the article in question will be published. We're aiming for mid-August, so expect to hear from us soon! Again, thanks so much to everyone who submitted questions

Sorry for the delay. Nathan emailed me this week to say that he would be attending to the interview questions as soon as possible. We'd initially penciled-in this interview to appear in a Spotlight: Music of Tomb Raider article. But thanks to Nathan's extremely busy schedule, we'll pick and announce a winner as soon as he's able to return his interview answers (isn't there something unusual... like a concert or something... that he's working on right now...? Hmm... ;-) )

I'm pumped by the fact that us fans in general (whoever asks him, whatever is asked) can actually be answered by him. That is mind-blowing to me. I grew up re-listening to the music he created over and over and to be like, "oh hey, can I ask you this?" is just... shocking. Call it that little girl who started out way back when in 1996 but it seems unreal to me, haha.
