Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag has been confirmed by Ubisoft.
The publisher has released the box art of the game, which shows the new Assassin holding a sword and pistol as he stands over a defeated pirate, and added that full details will be revealed next week.
"We confirm that Ubisoft will announce all the details of Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag on Monday March 4th at 5pm GMT," read a statement sent to Digital Spy.
Yesterday multiple sources revealed images and first details of the project, which suggest a pirate theme that expands upon the ship-sailing mechanics from Assassin's Creed 3.
It includes two pre-order posters that confirmed a Caribbean location, an early screenshot and news that the game would be revealed in full on March 4.
It was also suggested that the main character was Edward Kenway, a privateer, assassin and pirate, and father of Haytham Kenway from Assassin's Creed 3.
Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag will reportedly launch on both current and next generation systems this year, including the PlayStation 4.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot recently confirmed that the company is working on a new Assassin's Creed game, saying that the title will feature a fresh protagonist in a new time period.
Guillemot recently told Digital Spy that the publisher would release multiple cross-generation games this year, including Watch Dogs.
The new Assassin's Creed game is supposed to be released during Ubisoft's fiscal year 2014, which ends in April 2014.
Can't say I'm very interested to be honest, 3 didn't tickle my fancy in the slightest.

I saw a tweet which showed a leaked image of the poster the other day so wondered when they would actually reveal it.
Even though I haven't played much of AC3 (American History doesn't interest me), I still love the franchise; although I'm hoping this one doesn't turn into some Pirates of the Caribbean rip off!

I haven't even finished AC3, it feels like playing the same game as last time for the fourth time. I can't help but feel the core gameplay mechanics are starting to become stale after so many outings :/

I finished Brotherhood and by then I'd become fed up with it. Wandering all the ancient cities is really cool and the storyline is pretty interesting but it just felt like the same thing over and over again. It's the same with the Halo games, doesn't matter how you dress it up, it still feels like the same game over and over again. Bit rich coming from a TR fan but ya feel me, right?

The story has just gone a bit over the top for me. It started out pretty simple with the whole templar vs assassins thing, but once all of the ancients and stuff got involved I was just a bit like....eh.

I have never played Assassins Creed, it never really interested me so much. I might have to now though, I love pirate settings in games.

It doesn't look awful (or good for that matter, not enough has been shown), but I do like the idea of a Caribbean setting. The tropical environments and the beaches should prove to be quite refreshing for the series. Though the pirate theme does not look too interesting, but we'll see.

I like pirates and I'm actually pretty excited, although dreading the ship game-play that will have been added to this one. It was bad enough on III but to think I'll have to face that sort of pain all over again... Well, I'm considering throwing myself off something high.

Honestly, I really love the Assassin's Creed franchise. The problem is, the games have been suffering since Brotherhood. After that game, they started to go downhill and proved that Ubisoft cannot pump out a game every year and have it be better than it's predecessor. While I did like AC: Revelations and AC:III, both of them fell very short of my small expectations.
The mulitplayer in both was ruined and so many great elements that made Brotherhood's multiplayer so much fun were removed for no reason. Sigle player experience wise, AC: Revelations wasn't long enough and didn't hold that much to me and after I platinumed it, I left it and eventually traded it in for another game. You think the game would of also explained Lucy's disappearance, but it didn't and neither did AC:III, ridiculously.
Conner from AC:III was not a very interesting protagonist and seemed to be more of a stubborn, know-it-all assassin with a very uninteresting story line that you had to play in a game full of endless glitches.
Personally, I believe that Ubisoft needs to quit milking a series that was once so great and work on different series entirely, like a sequel to PoP '08 or even focus it's attention to Watchdogs.

Bit rich coming from a TR fan but ya feel me, right? We all have our poison I wish they would slow down with the AC, there is just a saturation of the market atm. We have only just got AC3 and it's like 'heeey look pirates!' Still, I am still hoping for an Ancient Egyptian AC with a female lead who has to infiltrate the royal family/harem. Frolicking around little towns and pyramids, bartering, dancing, stabby stabbing! You'd defiantly could have some pretty cool melee and weaponry. I'd even like it if she could somehow turn herself into a cat through a challenge so she could infiltrate easier. Okay it is a little AC:TR edition but ah well a girl can dream!

An Ancient Egypt AC with a female lead sounds fantastic. I would definitely be here for that. It still irks me that the only female lead AC game was relegated to a handheld platform but I can't say I'm surprised when female lead games don't get nearly the same promotional budget as male lead ones. :/

How did the AC vita game do, anyways? I'm sure if it did not sell as well as hoped, they'll somehow blame it on the fact that it has a female lead >.> With AC, people will buy the next (console) game regardless of the character's race, gender, or religion. The only thing I could see putting gamers off is if they made the (male) character openly gay. And if it's a woman as the lead, well, then she better have huge boobs and an unquenchable sexual appetite

It made me laugh when they said that female protagonists don't sell, if you compare the sales figures of 24 games of this generation that have female leads against male then you are going to have skewed data from a kickoff. Without going all nerdy statistics you would need to break down the figures to weight them accurately because I have a feeling that those published are more or less just direct comparisons which do not always provide great reading. Plus a female lead game isn't going to sell as well if designers aren't designing them, if you had a shelf of 6 games and one was FL then there is a very good chance that the other 5 outsell the one FL. I thought we were starting to get past all that until all the news about Remember Me came out. Anyway this is HIGHLY offtopic! Please continue....AC4

I finally got the chance to pick up a copy of this game, and I absolutely love it! Who knew sailing around the Caribbean in a pirate ship could be so much fun? I'm only 9% into the game, but it's been a blast! I keep getting the pirates of the Caribbean theme stuck in my head because of this. I could care less what happens in the story about Abstergo, I just want to play a game about pirates! The ship game play is a lot of fun and can be challenging at times. I can't wait until I unlock the Ram for my ship, for I will ram ALL the enemy gunboats! So yeah, I'm really enjoying the game.

Finally finished the Game. It was SO much Fun! Probably the most fun I've had in a long time. Doing battle with Man o' war ships in your fully upgraded pirate ship is an absolute blast! If only I had picked up this game sooner! Now I have the pirates of the Caribbean theme stuck in my Head! :3
