Wasn't much of a city was it. I think there was 3 houses?

That shows the limit of the technology in those days... or maybe 50 people lived in each house?!

Well I always assumed that the houses were for the guards to live in. Each generation lived there, each one protecting what lays beyond.

Never thought that much into it... My main thought was "Holy shit there's a bear!"

I thought that the first time, but then every time after it was more, hey bear! *slaughters*

No, surprisingly.
It must have been hard work pulling all of those underwater switches to go to the store every week for supplies.

And then some chick in hotpants comes and shoots your neighbours. I think the citizens of Vilcabamba have an untold story...

Well they weren't there. I'm assuming stuff and things went down. I mean, unless the bear could swim and pull levers his food supply would have been limited so he probably ate the small population of Vilcabamba. It must be like Africa where 80 people live in one mud hut fending off lions and stuff.

How were the wolves still alive then? Have they mastered the art of lever pulling and swimming?

The actual level design though is so simple, but I love it. I miss things like that. I guess you wouldn't call it a tomb would you, more like a structure.
Well yes Quiver, of course they have. Wolves are smart.

This is still one of my favorite levels in all the TRs, I don't know why...there is just something about it that captures my imagination. Except for that bear, he can naff right off.

I liked the City of Vilcabamba. I thought it was interesting and I really loved the level design. The architecture stayed different than the rest of Peruvian levels. What was enjoyable to me personally, was exploring and finding all sorts of goodies, keys, medi-packs, almost mummified bodies, lol. But what touched me most of all in the entire level was the colors and the liveliness of each hut and the fat that you didn't know what was going to come out at you either was a great addition.

Yes it was a very exploratory level, that mini temple was gorgeous as were the underwater tunnels. I was kind of upset that Anniversary didn't capture the awe I still have when I play Vilcabamba.

It wasn't a very safe city was it? I can't imagine a town with bears, swinging axes and wolves. No wonder there were no human beings to be found In all seriousness though, I thought The City of Vilcabamba was a beautifully designed level. I loved the temple like ruins and the dread when having to cross the swinging axe trap. It was beautiful, but deadly, which is the reason why it is one of my favourite levels in the Tomb Raider series. I actually found the one wolf that jumps out of a corner whilst I was picking up a medipack more scarier than the bear
