Just saw this article on the Metro website, where a fan of the series complains how the new Tomb Raider has been dumbed down and basically fits into the same niche as every other game that is coming out these days... I'm finding myself unable to agree with him... yes there's a lot of combat in this game... but has he actually sat down and played Uncharted?! These two games are totally poles apart in the shooting and exploring sections! Yes there's elements of the modern games in there, but I still think Tomb Raider is able to stand out on it's own from other games out there. What do you guys think?

Even though I don't agree with him, he doesn't exactly give a strong argument in the first place. While I think TR had too many shooting segments, they were far and between in comparison with the amount of quiet time you are given. If you straight up play just the story, then yes, I imagine that your experience will seem like any other generic shooter, since most of the combat sections seemingly pertained to the story development. Shooting, or combat for that matter, was the not main pillar of the game from what I took of it. it had far less of a focus on combat than I expected, since most of the reviews were misleading. It appeals to mainstream gamers, but has actual substance to those who want a game that isn't completely automated. It's not in the same realm of awe, challenge, or uniqueness as the old games, but it's certainly a great attempt that deserves the Tomb Raider moniker on its own. Excellent, wise words.
