I don't know if other people feel like this right about now, but I do. I kind of need to vent for a little bit regarding Rise of the Tomb Raider. My apologies in advance if this turns into a rant.
While I was extremely hyped for the game when it was first announced, the way Crystal and Microsoft have managed their PR have made me far less excited then I originally was. Seeing as I do not have an Xbone, I cannot convince myself to buy a $400 system just to play one game. I still have an Xbox 360, so I might end up getting the game for it. I will keep my expectations low. If it is on par with the 2013 reboot, in terms of it being a good game, then I will be happy I think at this point I should stop trying to compare Reboot Lara with Core Lara, or even Crystal Lara. At this point, Reboot Lara shares little in common with her previous incarnations, other than being a rich, British, upper class archaeologist adventuress The only way I think I will be able to enjoy Rise is if I compare it to the reboot ONLY.
Honestly, I feel like I went from wanting to immediately buy the game to being enraged at Crystal and Microsoft, to a mix of bitter, jaded, and apathetic feelings. I feel lost and confused. On the one hand, I still love the tomb raider franchise, and I do not want it to fail. But on the other hand, I hate what Crystal is doing to Lara, making her an exclusive for Microsoft in order to make a quick buck. Sure, the "deal" is "Timed" and "has a duration", but that doesn't make the wait any easier for us. I am honestly at my wit's end. At this point, I have resigned myself to whatever fate awaits Lara. TL;DR I'm going to buy the game for the Xbox 360, but I'm keeping my expectations low.
OK. Rant over.
What do you guys think?
Sorry if this is in the wrong section, I just needed to vent a little bit.

I completely agree with you. As much as I love Lara, I would never support the exclusivity deal on any system. Instead, if it ever comes out on a Sony product, I'll be there to spit in their faces that the game does obviously indeed sell better on the Sony consoles (which it does). The day I heard it was going to be a exclusive and honestly, with Microsoft publishing it, I'm having a harder and harder time believing that it's actually going to be "timed". But anyways, when I heard that, call me silly or stupid, but I cried a little. Lara and Tomb Raider have been such big parts of my life since I was much younger and now, they have ruined it in a single swipe of pure and utter greediness. I'll be happy when SE kicks CD out the door. Remember all that hate CD generated when Legend and the following games came out? I was one of the few people who stood by their decisions and kept supporting the franchise but now, I'm done with them. Not only could they care less how many fans they're alienating but all they care about is money. They have always had this really weird relationship with Microsoft for years. Why, I don't know, but the day I heard, I was both shocked but not shocked. It something I expected, given CD's past weird relationship with MS, but at the same time, I never actually thought they would shit on their fans. But that's what they did. A big pile of it. The way I see Lara and have to now that CD and SE have messed everything up for me, I enjoy the classic games and will play the previous games, even the reboot, but it's so clear Lara is on this slippery slope, that turned into a landslide of heading on out. Because if they think this is going to gain them money, they are the dumbest people alive. Try to keep your chin up and remember the days when Lara was awesome and the adventures she had. Re-play those, as I do, and keep her alive by remembering who Lara really is.

I couldn't agree with both of you more
They have handled the PR of this game so badly that I think that they are undoing all the things they actually did right with the reboot.
As long as they make their money I guess, who cares about what the fans think!

Just as you all have already said the PR really needs to be stepped up, other than people bringing up the exclusive thing the game is almost non existed to the public. E3 will probably reignite the fans a bit more..but who knows xD we'll see soon enough.

I'm agreeing with you all here, PR has certainly died down probably because they are going to do a big song and dance around E3...but I can't get as excited as I did last year because I know I probably won't get to play it. Another factor, that is personal to me, is that I'm missing out on enjoying making a new Rise cosplay in the run up to the game. In my head I had planned to make something in the summer for cons and then once the game was released make another or improve depending how it looked in game. The cosplay element is a very much part of a game experience for me and I feel like I can't get hyped because how can make something I can't experience?
I'm waffling now!Hopefully this makes sense!
Anyway roll on E3, let's see what you have...

What you said makes perfect sense! Everyone has their own ways of readying themselves for a game... I remember I used to stock pile every single gaming magazine that had a mention of Tomb Raider in it! But I don't feel any sort of excitement or build for the new game as I won't be able to play it, the exclusive has killed all that for me! I'm sure come E3 though the excitement will start building for XBox owners and just sheer frustration for us PC and Playstation gamers who are being ;eft behind!

So I finally got around to seeing the ROTTR e3 2015 gameplay demo and trailer, and wow... I seem to have a soft spot for game demo's and trailers, because I am now surer hyped again! I haven't felt this good since they first announced the game over a year ago!
I'm not quite sure why, but I think seeing ACUTAL GAMEPLAY might have made me feel better. Perhaps it was because seeing actual gameplay footage put some of my nagging fears to rest? Oh, and seeing TOMBS. Actual, honest-to-god TOMBS! That probably helped too.
It seems they took our feedback seriously this tome around. Maybe Crystal actually does listen to their fans after all? Now I'm DEFINATLY getting the game now! I'm goanna try to keep myself from getting too hyped, but seeing the footage from this years e3 has me feeling MUCH better.
