I think seeing as the launch is merely days away(and the majority of people out there have started playing it already!), it's safe for me to say that over the last few days I have been working on my own review of the game as I was lucky enough to be given a promo copy. I've only really had the chance to play the single player, so I haven't reviewed the multiplayer, but from what I've played of it at the TR event a while back, I really enjoyed it! I thought it was a good idea to try and get the view across of someone who grew up loving the classics and hasn't been the most impressed with Crystal's attempts so far, as there's a lot of Classic fans who think that way, so this review is just my two cents. Hope you enjoy reading it, when I can finally post it! Check back here on launch day as that's most likely the day that I'll be able to post the link!

That's my position too so I'm very interested to see what you have to say. Looking forward to reading it!

I have yet to play the reboot, but I have grown up with the Classics, been playing Tomb Raider since I was 8 years old and I have liked Crystals approach so far (apart from Underworld)
However, I am so excited for this new game!
I look forward to reading your review!

lol, I've tried my best to not include spoilers, but then I suppose it's up to the individual what they think is a spoiler... I haven't put any details about the story line in there... And yeah, if it's not offensive, I'm more than happy to post them!

Great review, it was really refreshing to see a proper fan's perspective of the game as opposed to all of the other website's review. Very enjoyable, ever considered writing some more? That sounds great! I'd quite like to write one for the reboot when I get my hands on it!

Thanks, glad you liked it! I do love writing, but I'm so self conscious of my writing style being rubbish that I normally talk myself out of going too far with it! Well if you do write anything, send it on to me and I can publish it on the site!

Nice to hear a review from a fan, and not some random person with no connection to TR. Nice that there are no spoilers, too Overall, it brings a good deal of comfort that even with some flaws, at least you think that it feels like a game worthy of the TR moniker. I think I can trust your opinion to some degree How would you say that it ranks with the other games? What score would you give it?

lol, well I've only ever trusted reviews to a certain extent myself, I prefer to make my own mind up! Rating against the other games, I would say it's the top out of all Crystal's attempts by a long way! In terms of the classics, I prefer it to chronicles and maybe even TR3... I wouldn't say it's going right back to where TR originally was, but then that's not necessarily a bad thing. The original will always be my favourite (followed closely by TLR), but this one I think I will always rank highly as a TR game! I think the score I would give is 85%. Would have been full marks, if it weren't for the disappointing ending or the bit of the bio I don't particularly agree with!

I'll give it a read when I'm finished the game, which I assume isn't too far off, I stayed up for 15 hours straight last night playing it. I have to say, as someone too who grew up with the classics, this is in my top three. I absolutely love this game. I shall definitely be giving yours a read as soon as I finish though, I'm interested to see what other fans think of it.

Glad to hear you're enjoying it as a long time fan too! After seeing how cynical alot of people were being about it elsewhere, I was worried I was the only one who would enjoy it!

I just finished it. I love it. Will come back to discuss when my eyes aren't hanging out of my head - I just can't marathon games like I used to. XD

I just read your review and I loved it, you have a really great writing style that flows well. I agree with essentially all the points you brought up, I thought the scale to the ending location was more of a climax than the end fight itself. I might write a review myself when I'm not overwhelmed with university work. *SPOILER*Did anyone else lose it when this happened? 25.media.tumblr.com/801cd61f689c9f9bdd1fc3feb5c04698/tumblr_mj7xi7Ifrb1qelb1ao1_500.png

Haha yes!! I loved that part! -- Just read the review! Good job! I agreed with all of the points you raised, both positive and negative. This game is a million times better than the LAU trilogy, and if Crystal decide to do a sequel, it is only going to be even better!

That's actually what I'm nervous about now! This game is just so amazing, how the hell are they going to manage to top it?!

My friend and I always have this joke about how sequels are always better, because they take what was good about the first, improve on it whilst lowering the negative things. I do realise that this does not count for all sequels though haha! Our examples are: Tomb Raider 1 followed by Tomb Raider 2 Resident Evil 1 followed by Resident Evil 2 Uncharted 1 followed by Uncharted 2 But usually by the third, things become a bit stale (TRIII, RE3, Uncharted 3) as the format for those three games remained relatively unchanged. However, I can only assume Lara's next adventure will be on PS4, so I think as long as it has a great story, the sequel will be every bit as amazing (if not better )

See I prefer TR1 to TR2! I always thought there was way too much combat in the sequel, still love it, but it didn't have the atmosphere that the first had for me anyways!
I suppose I just get worried, that they may get a bit big headed and lazy and not think that they have to try that hard to make a decent game... look at Dead Space 3! :-P
Not saying it will happen, but it's something I fear could happen...

I understand what you are saying. I kinda got that impression from Uncharted 3, I know it performed really well, however I found it just a tad stale, and too similar to the first two games.
I think Naughty Dog will have to make some drastic changes for Uncharted 4!!
But I think Crystal have obviously spent a huge amount of time on this game, and it really has paid off. If they spend the same amount of time on the next, I think we will have a truly awesome sequel!!

Can people really hold off 4 years for another game?!

Hmm, I'm unsure. I guess now that they have the basic format down, it would take less time for them to do the next. However, Square Enix tend to have long development times on some of their games.
It's hard to say exactly! What is the ideal time to wait for a game?

I'm not sure... but if the next game is next gen, I don't see it being a short wait!

TR is more mass market and the engine so scaleable i'd PERSONALLY expect it to be multi-gen.. like Legend was..
