Hello I've been wondering about this for a long time, but have felt a bit confused about it, or whether I would sound silly for asking... I have got TR Legend/Anniversary/Underworld/reboot, which I can play on my ps3. But, for a long time, I've really wanted to replay the older games. Although, I'm not very savvy when it comes to how I could get hold of these games to play now. My old ps1 passed away many a year ago (*sigh*), and I have got my laptop, but I've never really used it to play games. Its a fairly decent spec laptop running Windows 7, and is under a year old,so I was wondering if its possible for it to play the classic TR games? Or would I need to do anything in order to play? Massive thanks in advance for any advice: I'd love to replay all the games!

It's all digital now, you can buy all the classic TRs on the play station store on your ps3, or if you really want to try them on your laptop then sign up to steam and download them from there! Let us know what you decide to do!

Indeed, in the USA Tr1-4 are on the PSN, chronicles is only on the UK store. Your better off getting them from steam since you can get all 5 of the classics and AOD alot cheaper.

While you can play the classic on your PC and they are also on the PSN store too, with your PC, make sure you have a decent graphics card. I know it sounds silly because the older games don't have the graphics we have today but there are some graphics cards that are really just 'chips' and using max settings on various games, old to new, can deplete the life of your computer and eventually make it stop working all together. Laptops are especially bad with this.
What kind of graphics card do you have? (That is if you're planning on playing it on the PC.)

Thanks for the replies I've just been having a look at my laptop's properties and whatnot (please, please excuse my complete lack of knowledge where this part of computers are concerned; I know I am quite terrible at this!). I have found something on my laptop about an Intel HD graphics (Core i3) -- is this of any use? If this isn't a great card to use to play games on, then I will explore PSN store -- I am used to playing on consoles rather than PC, but I'm totally willing to try anything to be able to replay the classics!

The older games should work fine with the intel chipset as the games were designed to work on much older slower hardware. After AOD tho things may start to struggle a bit.

Depending on what your tv is, you could probably pick up a ps2 for cheap on ebay and all the games for £0.99-£4 each.
...
Actually I know you can't play ps2 games on the ps3 but you can play ps1 can't you? Or is that an urban myth?!

I got the original ps3 and I'm able play both ps1 and ps2 games on it... I think it was the updated ps3 that wouldn't take ps2 games

Unfortunately, that's a graphics chip not a card. It's not a real graphics card. I have the same problem with my laptop. The laptop was literally not even made over a year ago. You might be okay playing the older games, like TRI and TRII, but I can see issues arising and your processor depleting over time after TRIII. While older games were essentially able to play on slow, old computers with old dinosaur cards, you must remember you're using a chip not even a card, which are publishers' cheap way to pump out laptops without even having a real graphics card in the computer. The basics of a chip are about as equal in graphics as the 2000 computer/laptop graphics, sad as it is to say. Does that mean your laptop won't run it? No, it will. It'll just kill it a lot sooner and eventually burn the motherboard out as it doesn't have the capabilities of running common graphic software components. I'd look into getting a new graphics card (a real one) if you plan on playing any games on the PC. Since you have a PS3, I'd purchase them off the store. The first game is $10 and the others are even cheaper at $5. I bought TRII recently on my PS3 and it works absolutely great! Actually I know you can't play ps2 games on the ps3 but you can play ps1 can't you? Or is that an urban myth?! On the old PS3s that were 'fat', they had backwards compatibility but most of them received the yellow light of death, including my own. So they came out with the 'Slim' PS3, but it doesn't have any backwards compatibility built into the system. You can however, buy PS2 and PS1 games off of the PSN store and play it that way.
